You’ll Be Seeing More AYD Construction Dumpsters in Austin!

We’re excited to announce several new projects in and around Austin that will require our dumpsters for on-going construction projects that will wrap in the next two years.

We have signed on with Harvey-Cleary to provide dumpster rental services on site for the construction of the new Austin Aquatics Center located at 5513 Southwest Parkway. Scheduled to wrap up in a little over a year, we have provided the site with a 40-yard roll-off dumpster.

The aquatics center will be a great addition to the community, housing a state-of-the-art training facility for competitive swimmers and triathletes. The center will also feature a world-class competition pool, running trail, and access to trainers.

With construction underway, we have partnered with Realtex Development on the construction of a new apartment community located at South 1st Street in Austin. This area is known for eclectic shops, galleries and restaurants that line the street. AYD has provided several 30-yard and 40-yard roll-off dumpsters for the construction site. The community will consist of 278 units and is tentatively scheduled for completion in a year.

Recently, we just signed on with Journeyman Construction to provide services for the construction of a 300-unit project. The property is 15 miles south of Austin at Cabelas Drive in the up-and-coming city of Buda, TX. Buda is known as the wine country of Texas, and is one of the fastest growing wine destinations in the country. The project is estimated to be completed in under two years.

We are proud to have the resources and capabilities to work on multiple projects simultaneously. We offer same day services for orders placed before 10am and proudly service all of Austin, TX. As an independent hauler, we haul to the nearest recycling or waste facilities which allows us to provide our clients with multiple hauls per day so your project won’t be delayed. On average, we recycle up to 98% of the materials we haul making us a proud LEED-certified waste management company.

Downtown Austin New Construction

Downtown Austin New Construction

We just began a Downtown Austin new construction project, working with JE Dunn on the construction of a nine-story commercial office building. We just dropped off the first 20-yard dumpster last week. In the weeks and months ahead, we anticipate there will be three to four dumpsters on site with regular hauling every week.

This construction project is LEED-certified. The certification has additional requirements and obligations for general contractors, especially when handling construction debris and refuse. Our LEED-AP certification enables us to support the construction project by facilitating recycling of all debris and providing detailed reports or other information deemed necessary to successfully complete the project.

Did you know that LEED certified buildings have aided in reducing greenhouse gases and waste by consuming 25% less waste than their counterparts?

The majority of new construction projects undertaken here in Austin have LEED or other green building requirements. These projects are leaders in social and environmental responsibility and support the City of Austin’s Zero Waste initiative programs.

As Austin strives to decrease the amount of waste generated by new construction projects and minimize the city’s carbon footprint, it is crucial for new projects to follow these standards and utilize the expertise of companies such as AYD.

The new commercial office building will be located at 1301 San Antonio Street in the West End neighborhood, just a few blocks from the Texas Capitol building. The project should wrap in late summer or early fall of 2015.

We recycle, on average, 98% or more of all debris from new construction. We will also haul and dispose of your non-recyclables so there’s no need to contract with multiple companies to provide the same or similar services. If you are planning a LEED construction project in the city of Austin, please contact us to discuss your refuse recycling requirements.

Renting Construction Dumpsters for New Apartment Community in Austin

Renting Construction Dumpsters for New Apartment Community in Austin

We are currently working with Watermark Commercial Contractors with the construction of new 410-unit apartment complex in Austin. Situated north of Downtown near Austin State Hospital, the apartment community will be located at 4108 Avenue F and does not yet have a name.

We have multiple dumpster sizes on site to accommodate the various types of debris and refuse generated from the construction. One 40-yard dumpster will collect all of the general waste like paper, cardboard, plastic, glass and wood. A smaller 20-yard dumpster is also on site to collect concrete. This size is essential for collecting and transporting bulky and heavy materials like brick, concrete or even dirt to ensure safety of the construction workers, AYD employees and the staff at local landfills and recycling centers.

First, the 20-yard dumpster is a bit easier to fill which is important when you’re loading heavy items that are more difficult to handle. Second, this size is much harder to overload. A dumpster that is overfilled is heavier which means more expense for the contractors. It can also be a safety hazard because heavier dumpsters may be harder to load on our transportation trucks and more difficult to empty.

Both dumpsters are “on call.” This means that we’ll haul each dumpster to be emptied whenever it is required. This flexibility means that the construction job can stay on schedule and won’t be delayed waiting on a dumpster.

We’ve assisted on the construction of student housing for the University of Texas campus in Austin as well as other apartment complexes and office buildings. The city is ever-expanding and we pride ourselves on supporting the local economy and the growth of our city.

If you’re working on apartment construction in Austin, please call us to discuss your waste management needs. We have a variety of dumpster sizes available, offer same-day service and can provide a flexible hauling schedule to meet the needs and goals of your project.

Recycling Construction Debris on Building of New Office in West Austin

Recycling Construction Debris on Building of New Office in West Austin

We’re currently working with general contractor Zapalac/Reed Construction Co. on the construction of a new 250,000 square foot office building in West Austin. We have two 40-yard dumpsters on site to collect debris and we’re providing regular, weekly hauls to recycle the debris.

Part of the San Clemente office and retail park, the new building is located on Westlake Drive on the west side of Capital of Texas Highway. It will be five stories tall and will provide office spaces for local businesses. Spiceworks, a software development company headquartered here in Austin, has already signed on as tenant to lease 95,000 square feet.

The project broke ground in late January of this year and the building is expected to be completed in May 2015. The building also includes a parking lot with 1300 available spaces, and is backed by HPI Real Estate Services & Investments. The building itself was designed by GSC Architects of Austin.

As part of the ongoing initiative to reduce waste in Austin, new construction sites are required to recycle the debris that is generated. We support and take the Zero Waste initiative seriously, which is why we have and maintain a LEED certification. We can provide recycling services to any client, but can also fulfill the requirements of LEED jobs including providing a detailed analysis and breakdown of all materials collected, hauled and recycled.

Recycling is an important part of the construction process. Much of the debris generated on a construction site is similar to common household waste and can easily be recycled and repurposed. These items include glass, plastic, paper and cardboard, metals, and wood. Other construction debris like brick or concrete can be recycled to be reused in paving roadways, preventing erosion or in landscaping. Even dirt can be transported away from an excavation site and re-purposed elsewhere.

If you’re breaking ground on a LEED project in Austin, please contact us to discuss your hauling and recycling needs. We are competitively priced and offer same day delivery service.

Announcing Our New Austin Dumpster Rental Partnership

Announcing Our New Austin Dumpster Rental Partnership

We are very excited to announce that we have just begun a long-term partnership with M/I Homes! M/I Homes is a national home builder that is based out of Ohio and focuses on homes that fall into the $300,000 to $450,000 price range. You can learn more about them here.

We are currently working with M/I Homes on two construction projects: two subdivisions in Cedar Park and Austin. For these projects, which started earlier this month, we put down eight 30-yard construction dumpsters at several of the home sites. Usually with this type of job, we expect about three or four waste hauls per home. M/I Homes is planning to build 350 houses over the next year, and at three plus hauls a home, that’s a lot of trash!

M/I Homes is planning on starting at least ten more subdivisions in the Austin area over the next year, and we are excited to be able to work with them on these construction projects as well. This is part of the Ohio-based company’s expansion into Austin, which started in October of last year, following its entrance into the Texas housing market in 2010.

From these hauls, we expect to get a lot of construction scraps and other similar materials that we will be able to recycle so that they can be reused to make other construction materials. We are a LEED-certified Austin dumpster rental service, which means that we have distinguished ourselves as a company that practices sustainable business through heightened efficiency and reduced environmental impact and with environmental awareness. One of the most obvious ways that we retain this certification is through our recycling program. To read more about what types of waste we haul (which is pretty much everything that isn’t hazardous) visit our FAQ page.

Renting Construction Dumpsters for School Construction in Austin

Renting Construction Dumpsters for School Construction in Austin

We have been working on some exciting projects with the University of Texas at Austin all summer! Back in May we worked with Spawglass and Precision Demolition during the remodeling of the university’s geography building. This was a hefty job—during almost the entire month of May, we did three or four hauls a day, picking up and dropping off the 20 yard concrete boxes from the site.

Now we are doing even more work related to the University of Texas. You have probably heard about the exciting new Regents Buildings, which are student housing complexes going up on 26th Street and 24th Street near the university. These are brand new, upscale apartment style student housing buildings, and they are way cooler than the dorms that any of us had when we were in college. The Regents on 26th complex is almost done, and they have started showing models. You can also see pictures of the rooms on the Regents Facebook page. For this building, we have up to six dumpsters on site at a time. The dumpsters we have been using are 20 yard concrete boxes and 40 yard construction dumpsters for the debris.

The building on 26th Street is wrapping up in time for school to start, and we have just started work on the Regents on 24th Street this month. Because the job is just beginning, we are currently using a 40 yard construction dumpster, but as the project gets rolling more, we will also have 20 yard concrete boxes and more construction dumpsters on site.

We have been really happy to work with JE Dunn, the general contractor, on these two projects!

It is a popular time for school construction in Austin right now… we are also working with the Lake Travis Independent School District on the remodeling and construction of Hudson Bend Middle School, which is an ongoing project that we are using 30 yard dumpsters and 20 yard concrete dumpsters for. This is another substantial job—currently we have eight dumpsters on site, which are all being hauled daily!

Renting Dumpsters in Austin for Seaholm Power Plant Demolition and Redevelopment

Renting Dumpsters in Austin for Seaholm Power Plant Demolition and Redevelopment

AYD Waste has recently begun a demolition project in downtown Austin as the first phase in the redevelopment of the Seaholm Power Plant and the surrounding properties. The power plant has become a beloved historical landmark in Austin, and was originally set to be demolished completely, but was saved by citizens of Austin and city officials who want to retain the plant’s historical and cultural value.

The Seaholm Power Plant was built in the 1950s, and its iconic art deco architecture is part of what has made it so beloved by the city. The redevelopment project is set to create over 200 jobs and $2 million in tax revenue as the power plant and the surrounding property are transformed into a mixed use residential, commercial, and cultural development. The project is set to be designed around the architecture of the historical, art-deco Seaholm Power Plant, and will cater to Austin’s historical, cultural, and business needs. The design includes plans for shops, restaurants, apartments, and cultural venues.

AYD is pleased to announce our work with Flintco and Precision Demolition on the project. We have leased full size construction dumpsters to the demolition portion of the work, which should result in 60-75 hauls of construction waste, much of which will be recycled. We are very happy that Seaholm has been saved and look forward to seeing the new development.

How Many Leprechauns Fit in a 40 Yard Dumpster?

How Many Leprechauns Fit in a 40 Yard Dumpster?

How many leprechauns could you fit in a dumpster? Well, it pretty much depends on the size of your dumpster and the girth of your leprechauns. But, for the sake of argument, let’s take our 40 yard construction dumpsters and say that all of your leprechauns have kept up with their gym memberships. Why do you have all these leprechauns? I don’t know; they’re your leprechauns. Maybe you are throwing a Saint Patrick’s Day party and you need caterers, or you’re planning a tiny green flashmob.

Anyway. A full sized dumpster at 40 square yards has an area of 1320 feet. Leprechauns, if they aren’t too fat, generally clock in at three feet tall and aren’t going to be much wider than 2 feet. So if you’ve got leprechauns that are about 6 square feet, you could fit 220 of them in a 40 yard dumpster, if you packed them in there like sardines. Just remember though, they aren’t going to grant you any wishes or tell you where the gold is if you make them mad. But they might make your dumpster rental lucky!

NOTE: AYD Waste does not condone the abuse or entrapment of any living creature magical or not, nor will we haul away your leprechauns. See our FAQ for answers as to why, although that should be obvious. You got yourself into this mess, so you’ll have to get rid of them yourself. Most other messes though, we’ve got you covered. Also, all AYD Waste dumpsters are automatically lucky, no leprechaun required.
