AYD Waste Services Touts Business From Austin’s Population Boom

At Your Disposal (AYD) Waste Services, an Austin, Texas, dumpster rental and construction recycling company, has recently signed contracts to supply recycling and hauling for the construction or remodel of several schools, housing developments and office buildings, and for a number of large-scale landscape projects.

For several years now, Austin, Texas, has been one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in America. The resulting economic and construction boom has kept At Your Disposal (AYD) Waste Services busy. In recent months, the Austin-based dumpster rental and construction recycling company signed new contracts to service a number of different building projects and businesses in the Austin area.

AYD will be supplying dumpsters and hauling debris during Balfour Beatty’s addition to Patton Elementary School in Austin, and for the remodel of Manor High School in the northeast Austin suburb of Manor. AYD is also partnering with Texas Roofing for the construction or remodeling of several other schools in the Austin area including Westwood High School, the Austin Community College Campus, and KIPP Austin Schools.

Another large Balfour Beatty project underway is the construction of the Independent, a 58-story luxury condo tower, and AYD has been contracted to assist with this project. Specifically, AYD is supplying 40-yard roll-off dumpsters for metal and demolition recycling, and 20-yard roll-off dumpsters for concrete and masonry work.

Additionally, AYD has been contracted to provide dumpsters and hauling services during Rand Construction’s building of a Blue Apron and a Chik-Fil-A restaurant, and remodels of several office buildings; Swinerton Builders’ LEED-certified construction of Amazon’s corporate headquarters in The Domain; and Pride Builders’ demolition and construction of a number of different home developments in metro Austin.

In terms of straight recycling, Endeavor Real Estate Group recently signed a 5-year contract with AYD for a new dual compactor for landfill and recycling. AYD will also be the new hauler and compactor services provider for The One American Center, Frost Building, and 300 West 6th.

AYD also rents roll-off dumpsters on a long-term basis for the collection and disposal of landscaping debris. In fact, AYD is now partnering with almost every major landscaping company in the Austin area, including Total Land Care, Complete Landscapes, Benchmark Landscapes and Sun Terra Landscape Services.

All of the new contracts has Chuck Herb, owner of AYD Waste Services, very happy. “Not only is it good for our business, it’s exciting to see all the economic growth in Austin,” he says. “We love watching our beloved city grow, and we pride ourselves on building strong relationships with contractors in the area while providing much-needed hauling and recycling services.”

Construction Recycling for Sustainable Hotel Construction

Construction Recycling for Sustainable Hotel Construction

We are proud to be a LEED certified company, qualified to supply waste management for LEED certified construction projects required to adhere to strict guidelines for green building as dictated by the city of Austin and the US Green Building Council. Our most recent LEED project is the construction of a new Home2 Suites hotel, by Hilton Worldwide.

Home2 Suites is the newest brand put forth by Hilton in nearly 20 years. Intended to be an affordable hotel with sustainability as their key focus, the Home2 Suites line of hotels has only be around for about six years, but has been growing steadily. As a LEED certified establishment, the hotels will have a variety of environmentally friendly practices, internal operations, appliances and amenities. This Home2 Suites hotel is being constructed under general contractor G2 Construction. AYD will be providing our hauling and recycling services for the newest Home2 Suites in Austin, located along Highway 183. The project will cost $5 million, and when complete will have 87 rooms.

Throughout the duration of the project, AYD will supply 30-yard roll-off dumpsters to collect waste material. Of this, we will be able to recycle approximately 98 percent of all construction debris. This includes materials such as drywall, sheetrock, cardboard, wood, aluminum and plastics. Austin is known for their green initiatives, and we’re seeing more green building practices gaining popularity throughout the area. Austin’s dedication to sustainability serves as an inspiration to other cities. AYD hopes to continue contributing to this environmentally responsible trend, participating in the Texas Environmental Quality Initiatives Program and local community beautification projects.

Long-Term Roll Off Dumpster Rentals in Austin

Long-Term Roll Off Dumpster Rentals in Austin

We share a lot of stories of construction projects in Austin on our blog. We still consider these jobs short-term roll off dumpster rentals even if it may take several months, and sometimes an entire year or more, to complete the project.

We love watching Austin grow and we pride ourselves on building strong relationships with contractors in our beloved city to provide services for construction projects big and small. From new student housing near the University of Texas at Austin to large professional office complexes, our dumpsters are on site to collect, haul and recycle.

There’s another side to our business: long-term waste management solutions. A front-end load dumpster might immediately come to mind — these are the typically square-shaped dumpsters with flip-top lids that are commonly found behind restaurants, small businesses and even in some apartment communities.

Did you know that roll off dumpsters — larger, rectangular and common on construction sites — are also a common long-term waste management solution? Depending on the job and your specific hauling needs, a large roll off dumpster may be the best available option.

Collecting and disposing of landscaping debris is a common application to use roll off dumpsters long-term. We just secured a five-year deal with local Austin landscaping company, Complete Landscapes, Inc. We will provide one 40-yard dumpster at each location in Austin, Copeland and Kyle to collect trees, brush and other scrap.

Organic materials leftover from landscaping can be recycled. Often they are disposed of in a landfill to help breakdown other materials. Wood can be made into mulch, compost or fertilizer or even used to make sawdust and engineered wood.

If you are interested in long-term roll off dumpster rentals in Austin, there are a few things to keep in mind. The dumpsters are larger than the front-end load style so they will require more space. You will also need to make sure there’s enough space and easy access for our trucks to load and unload to haul, empty and return the dumpster.

Roll off dumpster rentals are an adequate option for large office complexes disposing of lightweight materials like paper, cardboard, etc. They’re an excellent option for landscaping and can be used to collect recyclables or general waste as well.

Eco-friendly Waste Management Strategies

Eco-friendly Waste Management Strategies

This month, we came across some interesting information about others in the waste management industry that are doing what they can to be green.

The American Environmental Landfill is working with the Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority of the Oklahoma Department of Energy to sequester methane produced by the landfill that will be converted to electricity and used to power generators. In order to do this, gasses from the landfill are pumped into a processing plant that uses them to power a generator that creates electricity. This is good for the environment because the methane is not being released into the atmosphere, where it would act as a powerful greenhouse gas. Also, the generator is being powered by an existing source of energy, which cuts down on consumption.

Update: Our hearts go out to the residents of Oklahoma as they recover from storm damage. To make a donation to the Red Cross, please visit http://www.redcross.org/charitable-donations.

Happy Earth Day from AYD Waste Management

Happy Earth Day from AYD Waste Management

It’s Earth Day, 2013, and to celebrate, we thought we would talk about some of the positive things going on in the recycling and waste management industries.

The waste management and recycling industries are continuing to improve their methods of dealing with landfills and other collection methods, according to the EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program’s most recent report. This has resulted in improved reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.  Industry emissions of methane and carbon dioxide, two major greenhouse gasses, have declined thirty percent over the last twenty years (it could be better, but it could be worse). Gas collected from landfills is now being used as energy to power homes, businesses, and government buildings.

Fun fact: landfills are the third largest emitters of anthropogenic methane in the US, behind collection of natural gas and ruminant animals like cows, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Responsible Waste Management Reduces Greenhouse Emissions

Responsible Waste Management Reduces Greenhouse Emissions

AYD Waste Services strives to be a responsible waste management company by recycling any materials that we can. Reduction and recycling have more environmental benefits than just energy and resource consumption reduction. Did you know that landfills contribute to global warming through greenhouse gas emissions? According to the Environmental Protection Agency,  decomposition that occurs in landfills creates methane, which is a greenhouse gas that is 21 times more potent than carbon dioxide. Additionally, the incineration of waste at landfills creates carbon dioxide and the transportation of waste does as well. When you recycle, you add less material to contribute to methane and carbon dioxide production.
